VIA Lab’s VL123 is a USB 2.0 Hub Controller, full compliance with USB 2.0 specification. VL123 is offered in one configuration: four USB 2.0 downstream ports and features integrated voltage regulators, new lower-power design. VL123 supports any combination of High Speed (480Mbps), Full Speed (12Mbps), and Low Speed (1.5Mbps) devices, and the integrated USB 2.0 hub’s Multiple Transaction Translators feature. The integrated regulator of 5V to 3.3V and 3.3V to 1.8V inside of VL123, therefore no external Voltage Regulator is required and can enable VL123 to be powered directly from USB VBus(5V), reducing BOM cost.
VL123 supports flexible configuration for customers, The VID, PID, and number of downstream ports and Non-removable downstream port setting etc. through the external EEPROM (24C02) or SMBUS or I/O Strapping.
VL123-based hub devices work under Windows, Mac OS X, and various Linux kernels without additional drivers. VL123-based hub devices are also compatible with non-x86 devices and platforms that support USB hub functions such as smart phones, tablets, and set-top boxes. It is well suited for all USB hub applications such as standalone USB hubs, Notebook/Ultrabook docking stations/port-replicators, desktop PC front panel, motherboard on-board hub, and USB hub compound devices.
